There are many reasons why people move to a vegan or vegetarian diet these days. Health benefits being one of the most common reasons. Plant-based diets have many health benefits. They can help to lower your cholesterol, your BMI, reduce high blood pressure and inflammation.
There are many conditions and disease where inflammation is an issue:
- Arthritis: A condition that causes pain and inflammation in a joint.
- MS (Multiple Sclerosis): A chronic inflammatory disease of your central nervous system.
- Crohn’s Disease: A chronic (long-term) condition that causes inflammation in the lining of your digestive system.
Could going vegan alleviate the pain of arthritis? The simple answer – yes!
Transitioning Into A Vegan Diet:
Vegan diets tend to have less saturated fats which can reduce the risk of an inflammation flare-up. I am not saying you need to immediately change your diet to become vegan/vegetarian. You could slowly introduce more plant-based options into your diet.
We don’t actually need to eat meat every day. In fact, it is recommended that you should really only be eating 3 portions of red meat a week. That means that there is plenty of room to try something new, plenty of scrumptious recipes to try.
Trying Something New:
There are a number of vegan food options out there that we use without realizing they are perfect for vegan/vegetarian diets.
- Flora butter – is plant-based and has no preservatives or artificial colours or flavorings.
- Oat/Almond/Hazelnut/Coconut/Soy Milk – Just as tasty as the alternative and a variety of options to try out.
- Summer BBQ – Just because you have decided to try a vegan diet doesn’t mean you will miss out on the BBQ this summer. There are a number of vegetarian/vegan-friendly sausages and plant-based patties, tofu’s out there to try, just to name a few.
Jenette’s Experience:
I have been a vegan for over 3 years now. Apart from a slight adjustment at the start, I am able to recreate my favourite meals easily.
For me, I didn’t choose to be a vegan for health reasons, but it has given me some health benefits. Before I became a vegan my cholesterol was elevated and now, I am happy to report it is at a normal level.
