The world is more connected then ever before. Everyone wants to ‘join the conversation’. With Social Media channels popping out of the word work to allow you to do that, how could we not all be connected? We all have such strong opinions and views that we feel we must share across the world wide web. We are happy to be the keyboard warrior or the internet tough guy behind the safety of our screens but what about in live action?
While we are all so eager to join in the conversation, why are we afraid to ask what really matters?
R U OK?
Did you know that 4 in 10 Australians believe that asking someone R U OK? is a conversation for an expert and not for them.
About R U OK?
Founded by Gavin Larkin in 2009 since he tragically lost his father to suicide in 1995. R U OK day was created to honour his father and to try and protect other families from the pain he and his had to endure. Larkin believes strongly that a conversation could change a life.
Sadly, Gavin died in 2011 with cancer but his legacy lives on in the national conversation movement. It encourages people to stay connected and have conversation that may helps others through a difficult time in their life.
Suicide knows no boundaries, so by looking out for and supporting those we can about, we can all play a role in its prevention. Thankfully R U OK day encourages us all to recognise that we have the power to as ”Are you OK?”. It can be over a pint in the pub, during the adverts while watching TV or even over a cuppa.
Activities for R U OK Day:
To help celebrate the big day, a great way is to host an event. It’s a great way to bring people together. You could be able to catch up over:
- Breakfast
- Morning/Afternoon tea
- BBQ
- Tinkering about in the shed together working on the next project
We are a fan of a chat over a good cuppa if we’re honest. So why not pop the kettle on and enjoy a chat with a few friends.
